Who am I and Why am I here?

Many moons ago, I used to write a weekly email for the local running store that I worked at, and the feedback was positive (mostly).  Even had a couple of people say..."Eric, you should write a book"...HA!!!  The most scholastically challenged person write a book!! Hmmm...maybe they were on to something...I DO enjoy blithering on (and generally about nothing, according to my wife). Fast forward a couple of years, and here we are...not a book, but my first foray at putting my thoughts (as random as they are) on "paper".  I hope that you will find some of it interesting, informative, comical, serious, motivating, but overall, a place that I can leave my random thoughts for others to read and enjoy.

I'm just a guy who LOVES all things TRIATHLON.  I love the training and racing. I love the inspirational stories that come from it (Dick and Rick Hoyt is a great one, but the couch-potato to first triathlon, is truly fantastic as well), the challenge it creates (whether it be a try-a-tri or the Iron Distance) and the stories and camaraderie that come with it. I love the fact that Age Groupers are racing side-by-side with the Pros.  I love the fact that we are generally not a snobby bunch of people and love to share tips, training advice and even lending a spare wheel or helmet to your competitor on race morning because they forgot it or it's damaged. Where else are you going to find that? I love the fact that most of us get goosebumps when we find a complete stranger is a triathlete and the conversation just won't stop (okay, maybe that's just me).

I'm also a guy who stumbled into the sport purely by accident and couldn't be happier.  If I hadn't had to go through a break up with an ex years ago, then I wouldn't have joined the gym, started running, met a person who got me a job in a running store, selling and leading run clinics, and got me biking, started teaching Spinning (thanks to Sue...you can see her blog at http://far-from-om.blogspot.com/), who would later become my wife) etc etc...you get the picture. Once again, we fast forward a couple of years, I am still selling running gear (for a different company) but also, now fortunate to be coaching with the great team at Absolute Endurance Training and Therapy in Toronto, working with other like minded-coaches and athletes and loving every moment of it.

Well, that's it for me, hope you enjoyed it and now I'm off to go for a swim, a run or a bike...heck maybe all three.  Check back in (or follow me on Twitter @happy_2_run )
